Weekly Roundup 6.16.19

John and I have always taken long drives on Sundays. Usually to see some nuclear reactor, abandoned hospital, or industrial factory that John wants to see - and a rural Goodwill that I want to see. But lately, we’ve started going on hikes while we’re out and about. It’s funny because John doesn’t know Exercise Kim™️, who can’t be relied upon to know the route, will talk the entire time, and will stop abruptly to take pictures and post stories. Conversely, Nature Time John™️ and Nine-to-Five John are the same - they both wear street clothes and take smoke breaks. While we’re hiking, we wonder what people think who pass us on the trail. I’m in head-to-toe tech gear, complete with fanny pack, handheld water bottle, and sun visor, and John’s in a button-down shirt, jeans, and smoking a Black & Mild.

I was busier than usual this week, so I did less reading and more watching. I may have bitten off more than I can chew: The Kim Baldwin story.

Here are some things that entered my orbit this week.

In case there was any doubt that no men read my blog, here’s a fun (terrifying) article on perimenopause.

If you meant to read that NYTimes article on the buffoonery of the wellness industry, but forgot, here’s your reminder. You won’t regret it.

Ashley C. Ford is one of my favorite writers and voices online (her IG Stories are great!), so I was thrilled to watch this video of her Brooklyn home on Apartment Therapy.

Have you seen the Dr. Ruth documentary on Hulu? It’s amazing! And by amazing, I mean I cried through the whole thing. I expected it be a funny, light-hearted montage of her talking publicly about sex. Joke’s on me because the whole thing is about her being a survivor of the Holocaust. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to be the granddaughter she mails feminist baseball hats to.

I moved to NYC after college and legit used my kitchen as a closet. When I moved back home, I cobbled together a food pyramid of Pasta-Roni, microwave popcorn and coffee shop breakfast sandwiches (p.s. I still eat like this). About a year ago I realized that I accidentally never learned how to cook. So I started Kim’s Kitchen™️ where I attempt one ambitious recipe a week. ANYWAY. I made my first Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat recipe! I made buttermilk-marinated roast chicken. It was my first roast chicken! Okay, technically John made it, but I ate the shit out of it and it was delicious, AND I turned it into tortilla soup and ate it the rest of the week.
